MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Spread offensive formations with four and five wide receivers are prominent in the Big 12 Conference, all but making the tight end position disappear.
When the Big 12 coaches selected their all-conference team, the tight end was Oklahoma State’s Blake Jarwin, who caught 14 passes for 190 yards. The Associated Press chose Oklahoma’s Mark Andrews, who had 17 receptions for 286 yards, and the AP second-team pick was Kansas State’s Glenn Gronkowski, who is a fullback.
The two players listed as tight ends on K-State’s depth chart are Cody Small and Dayton Valentine, and neither caught a pass this season.
