The Kansas State Wildcats won their opening game 34-0 over South Dakota. The Wildcats look to improve to 2-0 with a win over the UTSA Roadrunners, who gave the Arizona Wildcats all they could handle in a 42-32 loss.
UTSA Outlook:
Running fast-paced offense, the aptly named Roadrunners put up 32 on Arizona in a losing effort. It was a one-point game at the half. Against Kansas State, we should have a better idea if Arizona was just sleep-walking or if UTSA is actually a good team. Quarterback Blake Bogenschutz had three TDs and over 350 yards of total offense against Arizona. He could be in for another big game.
Kansas State Outlook:
Kansas State's starting QB, Jesse Ertz, was injured early in the game, leaving Joe Hubener as the QB for Kansas State. This will be Hubener's first start at QB at any level. He played just fine against South Dakota, but UTSA isn't a pushover. He'll need to play well for Kansas State to win against UTSA. Kansas State ran for 189 yards on 41 carries in the season opener and should lean heavily on the ground game again this week.
What To Watch: The QBs
This game will be determined by which QB plays better. If Bogenschutz puts up big numbers like he did against Arizona, Kansas State could be in trouble. If Hubener plays well and avoids turnovers, then the Wildcats will improve to 2-0.
Prediction: Kansas State wins 31-21
It's a close game, as UTSA plays like they did against Arizona. But, the Wildcats avoid turnovers and hold on for a hard-fought win. UTSA leaves its home stadium with a minor moral victory, having proved the game against Arizona wasn't a fluke.
