Reports from USA Today and CBS Sports today are wasting no time in posing the (several) million dollar question to new Kansas State athletics director Gene Taylor... who will replace Bill Snyder when the hall-of-famer retires?
Via CBS' Dennis Dodd, a quote from former Snyder assistant Phil Bennett (now at Arizona State) makes it plainly clear:
Now that Currie is gone, [Bill has] got the guy [Taylor] he wants there. He's got the new president [Gen. Richard Myers]. Sean will be the head coach. I think it's in order.
The Snyder succession debate has been well documented this off-season as Bill has battled (and beat) throat cancer and K-State saw the departure of AD John Currie. In the aftermath of Currie's hop to Tennessee, it's become more public that Currie and Snyder did not see eye-to-eye on the idea of promoting Bill's son Sean (and current KSU special teams coordinator) to head coach.
It's not only a debate that's playing out within the athletic department, but one on social media as well amongst the fan base. A portion of Wildcats fans has been trying to get rid of men's basketball coach Bruce Weber since he was hired by Currie five years ago. Now, we'll have to wait-and-see how the fanbase tries to suede Taylor. Though, it doesn't seem like the decision will have to be made this year as Bill Snyder is poised to be back for the 2017 campaign.
