The Kansas State Wildcats finished third in the Big 12 behind only Baylor and TCU this season, but they're losing several key players on offense, including quarterback Jake Waters. Who will be battling to replace him in Manhattan?
Joe Hubener
Hubener served as the backup to Waters last year, and is the only quarterback on this list who's seen time on the field, recording 371 total yards and four touchdowns in relief duty during the course of the season. Co-offensive coordinators Dana Dimel and Del Miller expect the 6'4", 205 pound Hubener, a former walk-on, to be the starter next season. He's earned the nickname "Bazooka Joe" because of his arm strength, but he's also a capable runner.
Jesse Ertz
Ertz was the third-string QB this past season, and if he couldn't beat out Hubener for the backup job last year, I don't see him beating him out for the starting job. However, he came to the Wildcats after being named the Iowa High School Player of the Year and won the Red Raider Award as K-State’s top scout team player during his redshirt year in 2013. While Hubener is the better overall athlete, Ertz might have the best arm of anyone on this list.
Alex Delton
Delton will be a true freshman next year, and he's the wildcard in this competition. At 6'0" and 195 lbs., he's much smaller than each of his 6'4" competitors, but he's also much more athletic. The three-star recruit is the highest rated prospect of the three, and is trying to make up for his lack of experience by enrolling early this month. He will definitely be starting for the Wildcats at some point during his time in Manhattan - the only question is if he'll be ready this year.
