LAWRENCE — Few foresaw the heights Frank Mason would reach in his senior season.
According to his former Kansas basketball teammate Wayne Selden, though, one of those individuals who did was Mason himself.
Ahead of Mason’s historic final year as a member of the Jayhawks, the two shared a conversation in which Selden says Mason essentially called his shot.
“He said before last year he’s going to win national player of the year,” Selden said Thursday, “and he went out and did it.”
The rest, of course, is history.
Selden, back in town for his first year as a participant in the annual Rock Chalk Roundball Classic charity game at Free State High School, said he kept close tabs on Mason and the Jayhawks last season despite living through what turned into a whirlwind rookie season in the pros for the former three-year starter at KU.
