Kansas’ unranked volleyball team defeated No. 4 Texas 3-1 on Wednesday night before a sellout crowd in Horejsi Center, and in the process, took over undisputed possession of first place in the Big 12 Conference five games into the season.
“We beat a good team. We beat a really good team. They’ve set the standard for a lot of years,” KU coach Ray Bechard said after the Jayhawks improved to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in the league. UT dropped to 10-4, 5-1.
“We’re trying to create an opportunity here to be competitive with them. Tonight we did that,” Bechard added after the 25-18, 28-26, 20-25, 25-23 decision.
