When Kris Jenkins’ buzzer-beater swished through the net Monday night in Houston, sealing Villanova’s win in the NCAA men’s basketball title game, no one cheered louder in Topeka than Rodney Woodall.
A Kansas State fan, Woodall on this night was cheering for those other Wildcats — the ones in blue-and-white uniforms from Philadelphia.
Why? Because he picked Villanova to win the NCAA tournament in the Hy-Vee Hoopla Bracket Challenge, sponsored by The Topeka Capital-Journal and CJOnline.com.
Combined with his other March Madness picks, and coupled with the tie-breaking score he predicted for Monday night’s title game, in which Villanova topped North Carolina 77-74, Woodall was crowned the winner of the online contest, thereby winning a $500 Hy-Vee gift card.
