LAWRENCE — Rio was on Daina Levy’s mind at the Kansas Relays, and that proved problematic for KU’s star hammer thrower.
“It’s in the front of my mind,” Levy said. “It should be in the back of my mind, which is why I think I don’t have the patience I’m supposed to have.”
Despite her admitted struggles, Levy came away from Friday afternoon’s quadrangular at Rock Chalk Park with an event-winning throw of 211 feet, 1 inch, earning her second KU Relays hammer throw title in three years.
But Levy wanted to eclipse the Olympic A-Standard mark of 232-11 (71 meters), which would have likely punched her ticket to represent Jamaica in this summer’s games in Rio de Janeiro.
