Recent history adds to hoopla of KU-Kentucky basketball matchup

LAWRENCE — Landen Lucas would love to forget about Kansas’ 72-40 defeat to Kentucky in the Champions Classic a year ago.

It’s just not that easy.

“It was by far the worst loss that I’ve been a part of here at Kansas,” the KU forward said. “That rarely happens.”

The game was a mismatch from the start. KU made 8 of 41 2-point shots. Kentucky had 11 blocks.

It was so lopsided that Bill Self entered the postgame press conference and started to open a water bottle before joking, “I was hoping that was vodka.
