LAWRENCE — It was early December when Chris Harris received a phone call from David Beaty, who’d been at his new job all of a week.
The new Kansas coach wanted to make two things clear to the Denver Broncos star: He was loved by KU’s football program, and he was always welcome in Lawrence.
“He explained to us that this is our house. This is what we built,” Harris said Saturday at KU’s spring game. “That’s the main reason why everybody came back.”
This year’s annual event had a different feel from past ones, as dozens of former KU players roamed the sidelines — a number much higher than in previous seasons.
