Perry Ellis pens emotional farewell letter to KU basketball fans, program

LAWRENCE — Former Kansas basketball forward Perry Ellis was always known more for his scoring than his words during his four-year career.

Thursday, just under a month from the final game of his college career, that changed.

Through an open letter titled “Thank You, Kansas” at The Players’ Tribune, Ellis published a 1,859-word message of gratitude addressed to what he called “Jayhawks Nation.” He highlighted his favorite memories at the program, from his first game at Allen Fieldhouse as a self-described scrawny sixth-grader to his sentimental final season at KU.

“It’s difficult to put into words what the last four years have meant to me,” Ellis wrote, “but I’m going to try.
