No. 2 Kansas battles past Kansas State 72-63

MANHATTAN

Kansas men’s basketball guard Frank Mason scored 16 points on 5-for-9 shooting, and No. 2 KU held off a late Kansas State run in a 72-63 victory on Saturday night at Bramlage Coliseum.

Forward Perry Ellis added 14 points as KU (23-4, 11-3 Big 12) moved to two games up in the conference standings with four to go following West Virginia’s loss to Oklahoma on Saturday.

KU had to play much of the second half without its leading scorer Ellis. He left the game with 12:02 left in the second half after getting injured under the basket, as he left the court with a towel pinned to his head to stop bleeding behind his right ear.
