NCAA penalizes KU’s Cheick Diallo five games; freshman eligible Tuesday

LAHAINA, Hawaii

Cheick Diallo has been freed.

The NCAA on Wednesday announced that the Kansas freshman forward will be eligible to play beginning on Dec. 1, ending a lengthy investigation into his academic eligibility.

“Our goal is to have eligibility decisions made prior to the start of a student-athlete’s season,” Oliver Luck, NCAA executive vice president of regulatory affairs, said in a statement. “However, this was a complicated case involving international transcripts and a high school that remains under review. Additionally, staff considered a complex set of circumstances regarding amateurism.”

Diallo will miss his final game on Wednesday, sitting out the championship game of the Maui Invitational.
