LAWRENCE — Montell Cozart’s second-half brilliance opened the door for a comeback. His absence shut it.
Down 13 with just over 13 minutes left to play in Kansas’ 37-21 loss to Ohio, the Jayhawks faced 4th-and-3 from their own 44, desperate to continue to cut into the Ohio lead.
Given the game situation and how the offense was playing, there seemed to be little question as to whether or not they should go for it. But it wasn’t that easy.
“We were about to decide to go for it … and then [Cozart] got whacked pretty good,” KU coach David Beaty said.
