When Mark Turgeon was born in February 1965, he was a bit young to grasp that a boy who arrived four days later would become a Hayden High School teammate and lifelong friend.
“I was checking in when he was checking out,’’ recalled Rob Reilly. “I was supposedly his first assist. We slapped hands when he was coming out of the hospital to go home.’’
Growing up a block apart in the same Brookwood neighborhood of Topeka, the two became inseparable playing on the full-length basketball court in Turgeon’s backyard.
