Louisville’s acting coach closed out Hearnes Center with game-winning shot for KU

David Padgett, Louisville’s acting basketball coach, should be a familiar face to Kansas fans … and perhaps to Missouri ones as well.

Padgett, who spent one season at KU in 2003-04, hit the final men’s basketball shot in Hearnes Center history, putting in a turnaround with 2 seconds left that gave the Jayhawks an 84-82 victory over the Tigers on March 7, 2004. He later called it an “ugly, lucky shot.”

A month later, Padgett announced he was transferring from KU before choosing Louisville. He played three seasons for coach Rick Pitino before going overseas for a brief professional career.
