Local sports briefs for April 5: Rural's Hirsch to sign with Fort Hays State for soccer

Washburn Rural senior Darby Hirsch will sign a soccer letter of intent with Fort Hays State at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday in Rural’s student cafeteria. Hirsch helped lead the Junior Blues to a second-place finish in the Class 6A state tournament as a junior and earned All-City, All-Centennial League and All-State honors. Hirsch was also a state placer in tennis.

KU BASEBALL BEATS BAKER:The Kansas baseball team scored four runs in the first inning and never surrendered the lead in a 6-1 win over Baker on Tuesday in Lawrence.

Colby Wright tallied three RBIs on a triple in the first, while Joven Afenir, Michael Tinsley and Matt McLaughlin each added an RBI.
