Kansas sophomore basketball player Carlton Bragg Jr. was charged with misdemeanor battery Friday after he was alleged to have struck his girlfriend and pushed her down stairs during an argument, according to the Douglas County District Attorney’s office.

Bragg, 20, was held without bond until his first court appearance Friday afternoon in Douglas County District Court. Bond was set at $500 and Bragg pleaded not guilty. He was released from jail later Friday.

KU coach Bill Self said he will suspend Bragg from games “as we continue to gather facts.” Kansas plays Nebraska on Saturday afternoon.

“Carlton and I have spoken,” Self said in a release.
