Alicia Pille pitched a one-hit shutout, leading the Kansas softball team to a 1-0 victory over Louisville on Friday afternoon in the opener of the Columbia, Mo., regional.
The senior Pille struck out four and walked one in the complete-game effort.
She got plenty of help late. With one out in the top of the seventh, Louisville's Kayla Soles hit a fly deep to left, but KU outfielder Shannon McGinley reached over the wall to bring the ball back for the second out while keeping the lead safe.
“I saw it up and it was high enough in the air for me to get back to the fence,” McGinley said of her catch.
