For the first time since 2000, the University of Kansas men’s golf team is headed to the NCAA Championships.
Paced by the tied for fifth-place finish of former Shawnee Mission East golfer Andy Spencer and tied for ninth-place finish of Daniel Sutton, the Jayhawks on Wednesday won the NCAA Pacific Regional contested at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.
KU, which needed to place in the top five of 13 teams to advance to the NCAAs (May 25-30 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.) on Wednesday finished the 54-hole regional at 20-under-par 844. The Jayhawks defeated Stanford by one stroke for the first team victory at an NCAA regional in school history.
