OMAHA, Neb. — Former Kansas basketball player Scot Pollard wore his KU Christmas sweater with pride. Across the aisle and down a row, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback took his seat in a throng of red-clad Nebraska fans.
The two coming together at the CenturyLink Center on Thursday night showed just how much the KU volleyball team’s dramatic run to the Final Four had captivated a state and also a university’s alumni base.
An NCAA Tournament record 17,551 fans packed into the building, and while the majority were wearing Nebraska red, the few hundred KU fans were loud in cheering on their own Cinderella story — a story that ended with Nebraska’s four-set victory (25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 25-16).
