KU football has motivation to play well on homecoming

LAWRENCE — Monday’s team meeting started with an email, David Beaty wanting his players to know they were playing for more than themselves.

The Kansas coach handed out copies of a letter from Gary Cooper, a former KU offensive guard who played in the late 1960s and early ’70s. Just after KU’s Orange Bowl season in 1968, Cooper was part of a team that went 1-9 in 1969.

His message to this year’s KU team: Hang in there. Times are tough, but don’t blink.

And most importantly, there are former players that are supporting you and have your back.
