KU football fills another coaching vacancy with Rice's Michael Slater

LAWRENCE -- The Kansas football team added another assistant coach Sunday, hiring Michael Slater away from Rice to coach the Jayhawks' defensive line.

Slater, who spent four years with the Owls, replaces Calvin Thibodeaux, who left Tuesday to take the same position with Oklahoma.

"Michael is a great coach and a great man," KU football coach David Beaty said in a Sunday news release. "He has consistently taken undersized and under-recruited players and developed them into top players for their team and in their conference. It is impressive to see his teaching carry over on game tape each and every week.
