LAWRENCE — The routine started an hour before almost every spring practice, the same thoughts running through Brandon Stewart’s mind.
The Kansas junior, lying on his back in the locker room, would do his best to go over every scenario to try to avoid another tongue-lashing from cornerbacks coach Kenny Perry.
“What is my responsibility in each coverage?” he would think. “And when he’s talking, don’t get mad.”
Though Stewart had played football since he was a kid, the harsh words from Perry were enough to shake his confidence.
“Every day, I had to get myself mentally prepared to play football for him,” Stewart said.
