LAWRENCE — It’s a small example, but it’s one that illustrates the struggle Clint Bowen faces daily with an inexperienced roster.
There are times when watching tape that the Kansas defensive coordinator sees one of his guys — while battling an offensive lineman — trying to peek his head over the top to see where the ballcarrier is.
Bowen knows that’s a mistake. There’s an old mantra in football: “Beat the man over you first, then go make the tackle.”
“As simple as that sounds, we’re not always getting that executed,” Bowen said. “Those are the things we just continue to get better at and continue to work on to get better at.
