LAWRENCE
After 101 minutes and no score between Kansas and Missouri in the first round of the NCAA women’s soccer tournament, Jayhawks forward Lois Heuchan found herself in a sliver of space.
Grace Hagan had just chipped a short cross to Heuchan in the box. Heuchan hesitated a moment, shuffled the ball to her right foot, and sent a strike into the top right corner of the net.
Raising her arms, Heuchan slid across the turf on her knees, laid back and let about a dozen teammates pile on top of her. The 101st-minute goal ended the second sudden-death overtime period against Missouri on Saturday at Rock Chalk Park, and sent Kansas’ team into a frenzy.
