LAWRENCE — Cheick Diallo couldn’t wait to get to the layup line before the game, so he sprinted out of the team huddle and ran out onto the Allen Fieldhouse court.
There was one problem: No one followed him. Wayne Selden shielded all of Diallo’s teammates behind him, letting the freshman forward run onto the court all by his lonesome.
Kansas fans cheered. KU’s players laughed.
It was a light moment before KU’s 94-61 victory over Loyola (Maryland) … though Selden ended up being a bit more helpful to Diallo in the minutes that followed.
Following a drive, Selden shuffled a behind-the-back pass early in the second half to Diallo, feeding him for a dunk and his first two points as a Jayhawk.
