Hall of Fame center Clyde Lovellette, who starred on Kansas’ first NCAA championship team in 1952, died Wednesday night at age 86 following a battle with cancer, his daughter Cindy confirmed to KU.
Lovellette died in North Manchester, Ind., where he lived, according to his daughter.
A two-time All-American at KU, Lovellette was chosen Most Outstanding Player of the 1952 NCAA Tournament and was part of the United States’ Gold Medal-winning team at the Olympics that summer. He also was on three NBA championship teams.
Lovellette is also a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
