Former top basketball recruit Malik Newman has decided to transfer to Kansas, ESPN’s Jeff Goodman reported early Friday morning. He chose KU over Oregon, Western Kentucky and North Carolina State.
Newman, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Jackson, Miss., played last season for Mississippi State. He was ranked as the No. 8 player in the class of 2015 and originally considered KU before choosing the Bulldogs.
“I’m glad they wanted me again,” Newman told Goodman at ESPN. “I love the basketball culture at Kansas, the way Bill Self holds guys accountable and love the atmosphere.”
Newman, who will have to sit out a year because of transfer rules, averaged 11.
