Kevin Haskin: Trials, errors abundant as KU breaks in most newcomers in FBS

LAWRENCE – What was it you were doing on that play, son?

Kansas football coaches have asked the question all season.

One, to clarify any mistakes players made in terms of assignment or technique. And two, to understand the talents possessed by so many newcomers.

Feedback is required, both ways, when 39 first-time players, including 33 first-time starters, see the gridiron. No team in the Bowl Subdivision has used more newcomers in such capacities, a reason why the Jayhawks (0-10, 0-7 Big 12) remain winless entering an 11 a.m. game Saturday against West Virginia in Memorial Stadium.
