Kevin Haskin: Selden returns for another opportunity to quiet critics

LAWRENCE – The basketball productivity of Wayne Selden remains puzzling.

Bill Self pretty much affirmed the enigma this week when Kansas conducted its basketball media day.

“Wayne has teased us and shown us what he could do,’’ the KU coach said of his junior guard.

The reference was to Selden’s contribution at the World University Games. In the gold medal run in which mostly Jayhawks doubled as Team USA, Selden was his club’s leading scorer four times and was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 19.3 points and 6.5 rebounds. Both were team-bests.

Selden scored a team-high 22 in the gold-medal win against Germany, but even that outing had its variances.
