Kevin Haskin: NCAA volleyball tourney creates odd twist at Shawnee Heights

The day Jazz Sweet committed to play volleyball, she stayed true to her name.

To announce her September decision, the Shawnee Heights junior sent a Balloon-A-Gram, along with cookies with her likeness stenciled into the icing.

Lucky recipients happen to work in the Nebraska volleyball office.

Yes, the same program Kansas met Thursday in the national semifinals of the NCAA Tournament at CenturyLink Center.

A bit odd perhaps in the case of Sweet. She was also recruited heavily by the Jayhawks and strongly considered KU, a nearby school ever so close to Shawnee Heights.

Nonetheless, Sweet chose Nebraska after also being courted by other national powers such as Florida, Texas and Penn State.
