Kansas Jayhawks coach David Beaty has named junior Montell Cozart as the team’s starting quarterback, per a report from the Lawrence Journal-World.
Formerly of Bishop Miege High School, in the Kansas City area, Cozart has appeared in 13 games and completed 45.5 percent of his passes for 928 yards and five touchdowns, but has also thrown nine interceptions. Cozart has also run for 277 yards and a touchdown.
For a Kansas team that has not had a winning season since going 12-1 under former coach Mark Mangino in 2007, Cozart is the best that any fan or coach can hope for at quarterback for the 2015 campaign, Beaty’s first as head coach.
