Despite never winning the big one, Roy Williams was extremely successful as the head coach of Kansas basketball. He put together some of the best and most fun teams in Kansas Jayhawks history, and he’s easily one of the best college hoops coaches ever.
Williams took over for Kansas in 1988 and coached the Jayhawks through 2003. Here are some of Roy’s accomplishments during his 15 seasons at Kansas:
- 418–101 record
- 2-time national runner-up
- 4 Final Fours
- 9 Conference titles
- 7-time Conference coach of the year
- 1990 Henry Iba Coach of the Year
- 1992 AP Coach of the Year
- 1997 Naismith Coach of the Year
Williams’ resume at Kansas is extremely impressive, but there will always be a sect of Jayhawk fans upset that Williams left for North Carolina, which was nearly 20 years ago.
