LAWRENCE — In the rubber match of Kansas’ home-opening Big 12 series against No. 6 TCU, the Jayhawks’ pitching struggles flared up again in a 14-6 loss Sunday at Hoglund Ballpark.
Everything fell apart for KU (12-18, 2-6 Big 12) in the fifth inning, as the bullpen imploded, allowing eight runs.
“It was a tough inning, there’s no doubt about that,” Kansas coach Ritch Price said. “We got behind in the count and left some balls up.”
TCU began its torrid stretch when Dane Steinhagen cleared the bases with a three-run double, and Ryan Merrill followed it up with a two-run homer to right center.
