How Gary Woodland climbed into contention Thursday at PGA Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Topeka native Gary Woodland shot a 3-under 68 Thursday during the first round of the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

At the time he completed his round, Woodland was tied for second with U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka and Grayson Murray among the day’s early finishers. That trio was one just shot behind Thorbjorn Olesen, who was 4 under through 16 holes.
