Hot-shooting Villanova runs away from Miami, 92-69

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Miami coach Jim Larranaga looked at the numbers and couldn’t believe what he saw.

“Normally if I look at the statistics sheet and see we shot 53 percent and 58 percent on 3-pointers, usually we win,” Larranaga said.

Miami’s hot shooting couldn’t match the sizzling pace of Villanova, which shot 63 percent from the field, 67 percent behind the 3-point line and just for good measure knocked down 18 of 19 free throws to shoot down the Hurricanes 92-69 in the NCAA Tournament South Region semifinals Thursday at KFC Yum! Center.

“We haven’t played that well in any game all season, but that’s your goal,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said.
