PISCATAWAY, N.J. — A few seconds after getting hit, Montell Cozart rubbed his hands back and forth, staying on his knees a couple extra seconds to be sure his signal got through.
It was a fourth-and-7 incompletion in Kansas’ 27-14 loss to Rutgers on Saturday, but more than anything, it was a play that accurately summarized where the Jayhawks stand one-fourth of the way through the season: aware of what’s going on, but unable to execute simple tasks at important moments.
This pass came at the Rutgers 20 with just over 9 minutes left while trailing by 13.
