EUGENE, Ore. — Andrea Geubelle is no stranger to the heartbreak of being oh-so close.
As a junior at Kansas, Geubelle lost an NCAA title in the triple jump after her winning mark was overturned by a coach’s protest.
Later that summer, Geubelle finished third at the U.S. Olympic Trials but missed going to London because she didn’t have the Olympic standard.
“In 2012, I was a centimeter off,” Geubelle said.
The 2016 trials were a sweeter experience for Geubelle. With the Olympic standard already in her pocket, she finished third in Thursday’s final with a jump of 45 feet, 9 1/4 inches to earn a spot in Rio de Janeiro.
