LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Perry Ellis’ storied Kansas basketball career will not end with another bitter "Sweet" moment.
The senior made sure of that himself.
The KU forward tied a season-high with 27 points, including 15 in a second-half outburst, to guide the top-seeded Jayhawks to a 77-63 victory over fifth-seeded Maryland on Thursday night at KFC Yum! Center.
The Jayhawks (33-4) now advance to the Elite Eight, where they will square off with second-seeded Villanova. The Wildcats shot 62.7 percent from the field in routing third-seeded Miami (Fla.) 92-69 earlier Thursday.
Ellis, who passed Paul Pierce to move into eighth on KU's all-time scoring list, scored nine straight points during one key second-half stretch for the Jayhawks.
