Dire KU football streak, quarterback battle ongoing after blowout loss at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas — Winning a college football game without the best quarterback on the field is an uphill battle.

That hill becomes a mountain when the other team has the game’s second-best QB, too, a reality the Kansas football team learned Thursday night in its latest in a long line of road follies.

The Jayhawks were gashed by Texas Tech backup Nic Shimonek, who took over for dynamic starter Patrick Mahomes in the third quarter and threw four touchdown passes to turn a nine-point game into a 55-19 rout at Jones AT&T Stadium.

The defeat pushed the Jayhawks’ seven-year losing streak in games away from Memorial Stadium to 40 — and 37 in true road contests.
