David Beaty ready to see which Jayhawks cut it on 'big field'

LAWRENCE — Back in 2011, when David Beaty was Kansas’ receivers coach, he had some doubts about one of his players in the spring.

D.J. Beshears was undersized at 5-foot-9 and not overly fast. He hadn’t had the best practices, either.

“I wasn’t sure he would ever play for us when I first got him,” Beaty said. “Boy, when those lights came on, that boy could play, man. He could really play.”

Beshears, after catching a touchdown in the spring game that year, went on to lead the Jayhawks in both receptions (40) and receiving yards (437).
