David Beaty mum on KU football starting quarterback for Oklahoma State contest

LAWRENCE — After two shaky games from sophomore Ryan Willis, Kansas coach David Beaty is not prepared to name a starting quarterback.

Beaty was noncommittal Monday when asked whether Willis, who has lost seven turnovers in his two starts this season, would remain at the helm for the Jayhawks’ 11 a.m. Saturday against Oklahoma State at Memorial Stadium.

“Our competition is always open,” Beaty said during the Big 12 coaches’ teleconference. “Just ’cause you started doesn’t mean you’re going to finish it.”

Willis was named the team’s starter ahead of the Oct. 8 contest at home against TCU, the first KU quarterback this season to get a public nod before kickoff.
