David Beaty alters KU football practices

LAWRENCE — So how difficult is it to try to compete in the Big 12 while also trying to develop freshmen at the same time?

Rob Likens broke into a wide smile.

“I have gotten closer to God,” the Kansas offensive coordinator said Tuesday. “There’s a great quote, because I’m in constant conversation with him.

“It’s very, very challenging.”

Consider this: When KU lined up against No. 14 Oklahoma last week, it did so with six freshmen starting on offense. That included two receivers, both tackles, a center and quarterback.

Five of those players were true freshmen.
