LAWRENCE — Rob Likens was experiencing a case of déjà vu.
In the second quarter against Oklahoma State, the Kansas offensive coordinator saw quarterback Ryan Willis make the same mistake he had the week before. Instead of electing to throw the ball to single coverage, he elected to loft it deep down the field where two defenders were waiting — a decision that had resulted in a fourth-quarter interception seven days earlier.
“As the ball is flying through the air, I’m screaming, ‘No!’ ” Likens said. “Then Tre’ (Parmalee) catches it, and I’m like, ‘Yes!’ ”
The 46-yard reception is just an example of Likens' roller-coaster life while working with a true freshman quarterback.
