LAWRENCE — Saturday’s game was an emotional affair for Courtney Arnick, and not simply because his team lost on a last-second missed field goal.
The Kansas linebacker’s mother, Carla, is a breast cancer survivor. In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, KU named her an honorary team captain, and she was right there at midfield for the opening coin toss of the Jayhawks’ 24-23 defeat to TCU at Memorial Stadium.
“Having my mom on the field at the start of the game, I’ve never experienced that before,” Arnick said. “I know it meant a lot to her.
