Former Kansas track and field coach Bob Timmons, who led the Jayhawks to four NCAA championships, died Tuesday evening at age 91.
Timmons was KU’s track and field and cross country coach from 1966-88. During his tenure, the Jayhawks won 31 conference championships and NCAA titles in 1966, 1969, 1970 (indoor) and 1970 (outdoor).
The four NCAA championships are the most by any coach in KU history.
“The Kansas Track and Field family has lost a legendary figure in our history,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said. “Coach Timmons led KU to unprecedented success during his time here and should be remembered not only as a great coach, but as a great mentor as well.
