Bill Self relying on veterans to guide KU during World University Games

LAWRENCE — The Kansas Jayhawks possibly have a golden opportunity in front of them, and KU coach Bill Self is hoping his veterans will get them there.

The Jayhawks, who are representing the USA National team, will take on Turkey at 10 p.m. Friday in their World University Games opener in Gwangju, South Korea. For Self, the games offer a unique chance to build momentum for the 2015-16 season.

“I want to go play well over there and win, but the biggest thing about doing this is to help prepare guys for next year,” Self said.

For the first time since the 2011-12 season, Self has a veteran and experienced roster led by the likes of senior Perry Ellis and juniors Wayne Selden and Frank Mason.
