LAHAINA, Hawaii — Bill Self’s complicated relationship with 3-point shots continues.
Even after Kansas made 15 of 29 3s in Monday’s 123-72 victory against Chaminade, the 13th-year coach seemed more annoyed than pleased by his team’s accurate shooting.
“When we make shots,” Self said, “we relax defensively.”
Self believed his team was doing that too often in a 51-point rout over the Silverswords. When asked if scoring 123 points was gratifying — it was the most in his 423 games at KU — Self shrugged off the milestone.
“I could care less,” Self said. “I told our guys during the game I’d rather win 50-40 than give up that many points.
