For the first time since 2015, the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Advanced-A) will play for the Carolina League title.
Wilmington bested the Salem Red Sox 6–3 in game five of the semifinals on Sunday, winning the series and advancing to the next round. They’ll face Houston affiliate the Fayetteville Woodpeckers in the best-of-five championship series, starting Tuesday night.
Down 0–2 in the series, the Blue Rocks won three consecutive elimination games, including walk-off wins in games three and four. Brewer Hicklen delivered an RBI bunt single to propel Wilmington to a 3–2 win in game three, while Tyler Hill’s RBI single in the bottom of the 10th of game four gave the Blue Rocks a 5–4 win and forced game five.
